The aim of this research was to determine the degree to which undergraduate students’ learning approach, academic achievement and satisfaction were determined by the combination of an intrapersonal factor (self-regulation) and a interpersonal factor (contextual or regulatory teaching). The hypothesis proposed that greater combined regulation (internal and external) would be accompanied by more of a deep approach to learning, more satisfaction and higher achievement, while a lower level of combined regulation would determine a surface approach, less satisfaction and lower achievement. (...) Within an ex post facto design by selection, 1036 university students completed validated questionnaires using an online tool. Several multivariate analyses were conducted. Results showed that the combination of self-regulation and external regulation can be ordered as levels along a five-point scale or heuristic. These levels linearly determine type of learning approach, academic achievement and satisfaction. Implications are established for quality and improvement of the teaching and learning process at university. (shrink)

Background: Attention to patients’ spirituality, as a moral obligation of care, is now widely accepted in nursing practice. However, until recently, many nursing programs have paid little attention to spirituality. Objective: The objective of this study was to identify the impact of two different curricula, used to teach undergraduate nursing students, on increasing nursing student awareness of spirituality in the care of patients. Research design: A quasi-experimental post-intervention two-group design was conducted in 2009–2010 and 2010–2011 academic years. Participants and research (...) context: The study included a total of 130 volunteer senior-year students. The students were assigned as “the intervention group/integrated system” that were informed about spirituality or as “the control group/traditional system” that received no information on spirituality. Data were collected via a personal information form and the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale was used to assess responses. The study was conducted at the Department of Nursing of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Cumhuriyet University, in Central Anatolia/Turkey. Ethical considerations: Permission to conduct the study at the nursing school was obtained from the schools’ management teams. The rights of the participants were protected in this study by obtaining informed consent. Findings: The results revealed that the intervention group had a higher mean score on the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale than did the control group. The students in the intervention group defined the terms of spirituality and spiritual care more accurately than did the control group students. Discussion: Nurses are professionally and ethically responsible for providing spiritual care. Nurses’ competence in meeting the spiritual needs of their patients should be improved by undergraduate education on spiritual care. Nursing scholars reported a significant difference in the knowledge and attitudes toward spirituality of nursing students as a result of the integration of spirituality into the undergraduate nursing curriculum. Conclusion: Spirituality should be more widely included in nursing education. (shrink)

The fourth workshop was carried out virtual on 25-27 December 2021 under the name of "Turkey Editors' Workshop - 4" by Sivas Cumhuriyet University and participation of the representatives of stakeholder universities, institutions and organizations. Preparations for our 5th workshop have begun. In this sense, our journal contin-ues its mission of being both a new ecole and a school with an effort to increase the quality of academic publishing. Moreover, we have also announced the preliminary review form and the review form for the blind review process. We examine Turkish and English titles, summaries, and keywords to make sure that they correspond to the field’s terminology. Furthermore, we require proper nouns and concepts/terms to be written in the reference style of TDV Ency-clopaedia of Islam. We also particularly require for the articles to use the Isnad Citation Style. To improve the academic quality of the journal, we have also checked the article up for plagiarism. The articles that are marked with a result above %15 are returned to the authors with a plagiarism report. It might be right to note here that we have been getting more attention from scholar-ly world day by day with our mission and standards. The journal has received 81 articles between July 1- August 31, 2021 from the academic world. All articles went through the pre-review process to check the referencing and transliteration style before testing them using a plagiarism checker. We then have forwarded the articles that successfully passed the plagia-rism check to our reviewers. This study examined the validity and reliability of a Turkish version of the Modified Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire for Student Nurses. After obtaining permission to adapt the MMSQSN into Turkish, the translation/back-translation method was used with expert opinions to determine content validity. Factor analysis was conducted to examine the construct validity and test–retest was performed on the questionnaire to determine reliability. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were calculated to assess for internal consistency. Participants included 272 baccalaureate degree student nurses who took ethics lessons (...) prior to their clinical internship. The factor analysis revealed that even though the factor structure in the original scale was the same, relevant items were categorized with similar components, and factor loads were sufficient. The correlation coefficient in the analyses of test–retest scores was.66 for the total scale and the Cronbach’s alpha was.73 for the total scale. The translated MMSQSN is a valid and reliable measure of ethical sensitivity in student nurses in Turkey. (shrink)

Mais on oublie trop souvent que ce penseur majeur fut d'abord un croyant et un théologien. Voici enfin l'étude qui rend justice à la fois à son œuvre et à sa biographie. Si l'apport d'Avicenne à la pensée occidentale est incontesté, on connaît moins le théologien et sa prophétologie.0La doctrine de la prophétie d'Avicenne (980-1037), bien connue, a néanmoins fait l'objet de peu d'études. En s'appuyant sur une analyse rigoureuse du système métaphysique d'Avicenne, l'auteure dévoile l'essence du prophète, dont la présence dans le monde sensible manifeste pleinement la continuité ininterrompue qui le relie au monde céleste.0A travers Avicenne, c'est aussi une vision de Dieu qui se dessine : loin d'être une figure abstraite retirée du monde et indifférente à sa souffrance, il est une source d'amour provident qui veille sur le monde sensible en y faisant advenir le prophète, qui est porteur de la Loi. Comme un maillon de la chaîne reliant le monde terrestre et le monde céleste, le prophète sait aussi illuminer les hommes de la lumière de l'intellect.0Gardien de la vérité révélée, il cultive sa prérogative. The principles offered by beliefs affect the thinking styles of individuals. Although it has been argued in recent studies that believers and non-believers have different thinking styles, there are few studies examining the relationship between belief and cognitive styles in Muslim groups. In this study, the relationships between intrinsic religious motivation and "critical thinking", which is one of the most desired thinking skills today, and " dichotomous thinking", which can be expressed as black-and-white thinking and primarily associated with negative structures, (...) were examined. The study was carried out with 395 university students, and the data was obtained by a socio-demographic information form, the Intrinsic Religious Motivation Scale, the Critical Thinking Disposition Scale, and the Dichotomous Thinking Scale. Findings suggested a positive significant relationship between intrinsic religious motivation and critical thinking and dichotomous thinking, and a positive significant relationship between critical thinking and dichotomous thinking. Regarding the relationship between dichotomous thinking and critical thinking, intrinsic religious motivation had a mediating role. The Islamic faith often invites reasoning and thinking and affirms this way of thinking; at the same time, it offers various conceptual tools for dichotomous thinking with discourses such as heaven-hell, good-evil, dark-light, and faith-denial. Although critical thinking and dichotomous thinking are seen as opposite constructs, the findings have been interpreted as the Islamic belief supporting both critical thinking and dichotomous thinking at the same time, thus reducing the rigidity of dichotomous thinking. The findings were discussed in the light of the relevant literature, and suggestions were made for further research. (shrink)

There is a confusion over and inchoate understanding of how the past is made understandable through postmodernist historical orientation. The purpose of the article is to outline the characteristic features of the postmodernist movement in social sciences, to explain its confrontation with history, to document its critique of the conventional practice of history, and to discuss its implications for history education. The postmodernist challenge to the foundations of the discipline of history is elucidated with an emphasis on its epistemological underpinnings. (...) Toplumsal cinsiyet, erkek ve kadının toplumsal yönden belirlenmiş olan rol ve sorumluluklarını ifade etmek üzere ortaya çıkmış bir kavramdır. Cinsiyetsizleştirme veya cinsiyetsizlik kavramı ise doğuştan gelen ve yaratılış gereği sahip olunan cinsiyet kalıplarının gereksizliğine vurgu yapan, cinsiyet üzerinden oluşan toplumsal kabullerden sıyrılmayı hedefleyen bir zihniyetin dışa vurumudur. Her iki düşünce yapısında eleştirdiğimiz husus ise ataerkil toplum yapısının adaletsiz ve ayrımcı olduğuna dikkat çekilmek istenirken biyolojik cinsiyet özelliklerinin yok sayılmak istenmesidir. Cinsiyet seçiminin bireylerin kendilerine bırakılması fikrine kadar uzanan bu özgürlük anlayışı, (...) insan fıtratının ve toplumsal değerlerin tahrip edilmesine neden olmaktadır. Oysa İslam dini fıtratı bozmaya yönelik her türlü müdahaleyi şer‘î ve hukukî açıdan sakıncalı görerek yasaklamıştır. Bu yönüyle cinsiyetsizleştirme projeleri İslam’ın dayandığı temel esaslara aykırıdır. Bu çalışma ile cinsiyet temelli güncel tartışmaların dayanak noktalarının tespiti sağlanmıştır. Çalışmanın amacı, İslam hukukunun cinsiyetler arasında ayrımcı ve imtiyazcı bir tavrı benimsemediğini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Zira İslam'ın temel kaynaklarında toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine ilişkin dengeleyici bir politika izlenmektedir. Cinsiyet savunucularının düşüncelerinin aksine, cinsiyet ayrımının temeli dinî kaynaklardan değil ataerkil düşünce yapısından kaynaklanmaktadır. Bir diğer amaç ise cinsiyetler arası eşitlikten ziyade cinsiyet rolleri üzerinde sağlanacak adaletin toplum değerleri açısından dengeleyici bir yaklaşım olacağının altını çizmektir. Toplumsal düzen arayışında adil, dengeleyici ve bütünleştirici bir tutum benimsemek cinsiyetler arasında ortaya çıkan sorunların aşılması noktasında tutarlı bir yaklaşım oluşturacaktır. Çalışmamız, nitel bir yaklaşımla literatür tarama yöntemi ve veri analizi tekniği ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çerçevede toplumsal cinsiyet ve cinsiyetsizlik söylemlerinin neslin korunması adına oluşturabileceği problemler ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışma, cinsiyetsiz toplum söyleminin, bireylerin kişilik haklarına yönelik bir müdahale olduğu görüşünü ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca bu tür söylemlerin, toplumun temelini oluşturan aile değerlerini tehdit ettiği ve dolayısıyla toplumsal yapıyı bozduğu yönündeki endişelere dikkat çekmektedir. Çalışmayı önemli kılan bir diğer husus, cinsiyetler üzerinden kullanılan çatışmacı dilin, kadın ve erkeği birbirleriyle rekabet etmeye yönlendirerek karşı karşıya getirdiğini vurgulamasıdır. Toplumsal konuların erkek ve kadın değil, insan hakları perspektifinden ele alınması, insanların dillerine, dinlerine, renklerine, mesleklerine veya cinsiyetlerine göre değerlendirilmemesi gerektiği yönüne dikkat çekilmiştir. Çalışmamız neticesinde toplumsal cinsiyet düşüncesinin toplumda ahlaki, hukuki, dinî ve kültürel değerler ile ilgili pek çok problemi beraberinde getirdiği saptanmıştır. (shrink)

Plus encore que la mondialisation des échanges, le commerce des hommes sur Internet et sa réglementation mettent à l'épreuve la diversité des modèles culturels et politiques marqués jusqu'ici par la souveraineté territoriale des espaces nationaux ou régionaux. L'article montre, à travers quelques exemples, comment la normativité sur Internet s'élabore de manière à la fois multiple et hétérogène avec une grande diversité de normes et d'acteurs qui interviennent pour fixer les formats d'échange, la répartition des ressources, les normes de comportement, les (...) règles du marché, les standards techniques. Les auteurs identifient quelques-uns des enjeux principaux dont la Francophonie doit se saisir en ce domaine, et proposent des pistes pour donner sens à une gouvernance francophone d'Internet, avec le triple objectif d'une approche démocratique, d'une ouverture aux pays non occidentaux et d'un plurilinguisme assumé.Even more than the globalization of exchanges, social and commercial interactions on the Internet, as well as their regulation, challenge the diversity of cultural and political models which had been determined until then by the territorial sovereignty of Nations. This paper shows, through some examples, how norms are established on the Internet in multiple and heterogeneous ways, with a great diversity of mechanisms, arenas and actors taking part in the formatting of exchanges, distribution of resources, behavioral norms, market rules, technical standards. The authors identify some of the main stakes Francophony should seize in this field, and propose ideas to build a francophone approach to Internet governance, with the triple objective of consolidating democracy, being inclusive towards non-Western countries and upholding multilingualism. Research has found an inverse relationship between posttraumatic growth and suicidal ideation in military and community samples that holds when controlling for other suicide risk factors. However, further research is needed into the underlying mechanisms to clarify how PTG protects against the formation of suicidal ideation. The current two-wave longitudinal study examined whether perceiving PTG from recent adverse circumstances while in a national lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic attenuated the positive relationship of two interpersonal suicide risk factors – perceived burdensomeness (...) and thwarted belonginess –over 6 weeks. Participants were recruited online from Prolific from income-deprived areas in the United Kingdom. Post-hoc power analyses indicated we had insufficient power to examine the hypothesised mediation for TB. We examined whether PTG mediated the relationship between PB at wave 1 and wave 2 while controlling for depression and anxiety in a sample of individuals at-risk for suicidal ideation. PTG did significantly and partially mediate the positive relationship between PB at wave 1 and 2. We discuss the theoretical and clinical implications that could result if future research successfully replicates these initial exploratory findings. (shrink)

İlk olarak fizikte sözü edilen, daha sonra felsefe ve dilbilim disiplinlerinde araştırmalara konu edilen dünya görüşünün böyle genel bir tanımı, terimin paradigmatik ve ontolojik yönüne ışık tutmaktadır. Bağlantısal bütünsellik, her bir birimin bir üst birimin parçası olduğu ve aralarındaki enformasyon bağlantısı sayesinde bir bütün oluşturduğu ağ yapılarını tanımlamak için kullanılmaktadır. Burada bağlantısal bütünselliğin yanı sıra, (...) bireyin deneyimlerinin depolandığı, nöronlar arası bağlantılar sayesinde meydana gelen ve beynin bağlantısallığını ifade eden ağ anlamına gelen konnektom teriminin önemi ortaya çıkmaktadır. 21. yüzyılda nörobilim çalışmalarının bilim dünyasına kazandırdığı önemli terimlerden biri olan bağlantısal bütünsellik terimi, yaşamın her alanına uygulanabilirliği açısından, dünya görüşü fenomenini de tüm yönleriyle açıklığa kavuşturmayı mümkün kılmaktadır. Düşünce, insan, dünya, gerçeklik, kültür ve dil düzleminde bütünsel açıdan ele alınması gereken dünya görüşü ile özgül yapısı gereği bütünsellik taşıyan bağlantısallık yaklaşımı arasında hem ortaklık hem de disiplinler arasılık söz konusudur. Dini bir kavram olan tevekkül, aynı zamanda son yıllarda psikoloji araştırmalarına da konu olmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı din bilimleri araştırmalarında kullanmak amacıyla Pakistan Müslümanları üzerinde geliştirilen Tevekkül Ölçeği’ni Türk kültürüne uyarlamaktır. Bu amaçla toplamda 595 kişiden oluşan iki farklı çalışma grubundan elde edilen veriler üzerinde geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri yürütülmüştür. İlk çalışma grubundan elde edilen verilere uygulanan Açımlayıcı Faktör Analizi sonuçlarına göre maddelerin orijinal ölçekte olduğu gibi 4 faktörde toplandığı, faktörlerin toplam varyansın %60,21’ini açıkladığı görülmüştür. Elde edilen faktörlere ikinci çalışma (...) grubundan elde edilen veriler kullanılarak Doğrulayıcı Faktör Analizi uygulanmış ve elde edilen model kabul edilebilir uyum düzeyinde bulunmuştur. Ölçüt bağıntılı geçerlik bulguları da ölçeğin uyum sağladığını göstermiş, tevekkül ile bilişsel kontrol ve esneklik arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı pozitif yönlü ilişkiler bulunmuştur. Ölçeğin iç tutarlılık güvenirlik katsayısı ilk örneklemde,899; ikinci örneklemde,923’tür. Ölçeğin düzeltilmiş madde toplam korelasyon katsayılarının birinci çalışma grubunda,39 ile,72; ikinci çalışma grubunda,43 ile,72 arasında sıralandığı görülmüştür. 23 madde ve dört alt boyuttan oluşan ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirlik kriterlerini karşıladığı görülmektedir. Uyarlanan Tevekkül Ölçeği Türk kültüründe yürütülecek araştırmalarda kullanılmak için geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracıdır. (shrink)

Düşünmek, insan hayatının vazgeçilmez unsurlarından biridir. Eleştirel düşünme ise insanın zihnini hatadan koruyarak doğru ve tutarlı düşünmesini sağlamaktadır. Ancak bu düşünme şekli doğuştan getirilmeyip eğitimle geliştirilmektedir. Disiplinli düşünmeyi öğrenen insan gerek bireysel hayatında gerek çevresinde gerekse profesyonel hayatta daha başarılı bir yol izleyecektir. Bu eser de eleştirel düşünmeye bir giriş niteliğinde olmakla beraber alana dair okumalara yeni başlayanlar için önemli bir ilk adım niteliğindedir.

The increasing number of companies providing internet services and auction tools helped popularize the online reverse auction trend for purchasing commodities and services in the last decade. As a result, a number of owners, both public and private, accepted the online reverse auctions as the bidding technique for their construction projects. Owners, while trying to minimize their costs for construction projects, are also required to address their ethical responsibilities to the shareholders. In the case of online reverse auctions for construction (...) projects, the ethical issues involved in the bidding technique directly reflects on the owner’s ethical and social responsibilities to their shareholders. The goal of this paper is to identify the shareholder ethics and responsibilities in online reverse auctions for construction projects by analyzing the ethical issues for the parties involved in the process. The identification of the ethical issues and responsibilities requires clear definition and understanding of professional ethics and the roles of the involved parties. In this paper, first, the concept of professional ethics and social responsibility is described in a general form. To illustrate the ethical issues and responsibilities, a sample case of bidding for a construction project using online reverse auction techniques is presented in which the shareholders were actively involved in questioning the ethical issues. The issues involved in the bidding process and their reflection on the shareholder responsibilities are described and analyzed for each stage of the process. A brief discussion of the overall process is also included to address the general ethical issues involved in online reverse auctions. (shrink)

This paper discusses in critical terms Muhammad ‘Abd al-Jabiri’s influential philosophical work. It engages, in particular, in the analysis of the assumptions underlying the radical contrast that al-Jabiri sets up between Avicenna’s philosophy – which is supposed to represent irrationality and Gnosticism – and that of Averroes who, according to him, breaks decisively with that current of thought and thus makes exercising philosophical thought once again possible. After a close discussion of the positions of classical philosophers , the author concludes (...) that it is the very validity of the notion of “Arab reason” that has to be questioned in al-Jabiri’s analysis. This essay collection examines the relationship between media and cosmopolitanism in an increasingly fragmented and globalizing world. It covers areas such as cosmopolitanization in everyday life, the mediation of suffering and cosmopolitanism, cosmopolitanism and trauma studies, and researching cosmopolitanism from a non-Western perspective.

Although lay notions in normative ethics have previously been investigated within the framework of the dual-process interpretation of the terror management theory (TMT), meta-ethical beliefs (subjective vs. objective morality) have not been previously investigated within the same framework. In the present research, we primed mortality salience, shown to impair reasoning performance in previous studies, to see whether it inhibits subjectivist moral judgments in three separate experiments. In Experiment 3, we also investigated whether impaired reasoning performance indeed mediates the effect of (...) mortality salience on subjectivism. The results of the three experiments consistently showed that people in the mortality salience group reported significantly less subjectivist responses than the control group, and impaired reasoning performance partially mediates it. Overall, the results are consistent with the dual-process interpretation of TMT and suggest that not only normative but also meta-ethical judgments can be explained by this model. (shrink)

Prior research has demonstrated that issues in leadership problems can lead to both negative organisational outcomes and unethical practices at work, such as bullying and counterproductive behaviours. This study investigates the association of bullying with paternalistic leadership dimensions (i. e. creating family atmosphere at work, maintaining individualised relationships, non-work involvement, loyalty seeking and maintaining authority). Seven hundred and fifteen questionnaires were collected from employees in Turkish workplaces. Confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the bullying phenomenon and paternalistic leadership with (...) respect to their dimensions. Hierarchical regression analyses revealed that ' expecting loyalty in exchange for nurture at work* relates positively with the experience of bullying. In contrast, findings indicated a negative association between leadership involving ' behaving like a senior family member at work' and bullying. Plausible explanations of the findings were discussed by referring to relevant ethical climate literature. (shrink)

Yakın zamana kadar dominant olan Newtoncu doğa anlayışı doğa bilimlerindeki gelişmelerle ciddi olarak eleştirilmeye başlanmıştır. Hiç kuşku yok ki bu eleştirel dönüşüm sürecinin başlangıcında Einstein ve Schrödinger fiziği vardır. Buna bağlı olarak biyolojide geçtiğimiz yüzyılın başından günümüze kadar gerçekleşen gelişmeler (evrimsel biyoloji, genetik, epigenetik, moleküler biyoloji, gelişim biyolojisi, ekoloji, fizyoloji konularıyla ilgili değişim ve gelişimler) biyolojinin temel kavramları olan fenom, genom ve çevre’deki değişimleri de içermektedir. Yeni bir doğa kavrayışını da beraberinde getiren bu süreçte biyoloji, bize canlıların çevreleriyle sınırları net (...) olmayan ve kompleks etkileşimleri üzerinden kendilerini dinamik bir halde sürekli olarak organize eden sistemler olduğunu söylemektedir. Canlıların, değişimini gözlemleyebileceğimiz kadar hızlı olan özellikleri de uzun süreler boyunca stabil halde gözlemlediğimiz özellikleri de süreçlerden oluşmaktadır. Canlılara ait tüm özellikler (fenomlar ve genomlar) kompleks bir ağ oluşturan diğer akışlarla etkileşimleri içinde akmaktadır. Bu yüzden, bir fenotipik özelliği etraflıca açıklama iddiasıyla yola çıkılıp, buna rağmen araştırmanın ve sonucundaki açıklamanın tek yönlü (sadece tek bir tür parametreyi dikkate alarak ve bir parametreye özellikle yoğun vurgu yaparak) yapılması sorunludur. Çünkü fenom, ancak bütüncül bir yaklaşımla ve fenom oluşumunun kompleksite ve dinamizm özelliklerinin farkında olarak etraflıca açıklanabilir. Bir fenotipik özelliğin etraflıca açıklanması iddiasının olmadığı durumlarda (ki standart bir biyoloji araştırması çoğunlukla bu iddiada değildir), sadece bir parametre dikkate alınabilir ve bu durum son derece anlaşılırdır. Bilim insanları her durumda (fenotipik özelliği hem etraflıca inceleme hem de tek bir parametreyle etkileşimini inceleme durumlarında) fenom oluşumunun kompleksite ve dinamizm özelliklerinin farkında olmalıdırlar ve açıklamaları da araştırma süreçleri de bu farkındalığı içermelidir. Burada araştırmacının zihnini belirleyen soru şudur: doğa bütünsel, stabil ve mekanik nedenselliğin egemen olduğu bir varlıklar alanı mıdır yoksa parçaların birbirleriyle sürekli etkileşerek yeni uyumlar ve ilişkiler geliştirdiği karmaşık ve akışkan varlıklar topluluğu mudur? Bu soruya karmaşıklık, akışkanlık, karşılıklı etkileşim ve uyum üzerinden cevap verilirse üzerine odaklanılacak olan kavram ne varlık ne fenomen, fakat süreçtir. Nitekim süreç felsefesi, biyolojideki felsefi problemler ve kavramsal incelemeler için çok kullanışlıdır. Bu durumun iki temel nedeni: 1) biyolojinin konusu olan şeylerin temel olarak süreçler olması ve 2) bilim insanlarının araştırmaları sırasında süreçler üzerinden akıl yürütmeleri ve bu yolla kavramları kullanmaları, açıklamalara, bilgiye ulaşmalarıdır. Bu çalışma, bu iki temel unsuru göz önünde bulundurarak ortaya çıkan yeni biyolojinin beraberinde getirdiği ve yeni imkanlar sunan yeni bir doğa anlayışına odaklanmıştır. Bu yeni doğa anlayışı, mekanik ve statik olmaktan ziyade kendi içinde stabil ama bütünüyle dinamik doğa anlayışıdır. (shrink)
